Elijah Blue (Festuca glauca 'Elijah Blue') is a long-lived evergreen grass of a unique blue colour. The intense blue shade, which persists even during hot and sunny summers, is a distinctive feature of this plant. It has narrow, waxy leaves and forms dense clump. Elijah Blue grows up to 30 cm high.
General description: Elijah Blue fescue tolerates drought very well. It’s resistant to frost and diseases. It’s ideal for planting rock gardens, on embankments and by paths and can also be grown in plant containers on terraces and balconies.
Flowers: In May, this blue fescue variety produces very few stalks topped with loose, panicle-shaped inflorescences. The flowers are small, initially blue and later yellow. After the inflorescences wither, it’s best to cut them off.
Leaves: Elijah Blue leaves are narrow, greyish blue and have a waxy coating.
Cultivation requirements: Elijah Blue prefers a sunny, dry location and should be planted in sandy, permeable soil. It can be planted in groups.
Care: It’s advised to remove damaged leaves in spring. Every few years, this blue fescue needs to be rejuvenated by dividing the grass clumps.
Overwintering: Elijah Blue is fully frost resistant.
