General description: The Autumn red raspberry is an extremely valuable variety of raspberry. Its fruit is sweet and very tasty. Thanks to it being a double-cropping variety, the harvest can be enjoyed twice a year, in summer and autumn. It grows up to 1.5 m high. It is frost resistant and relatively low maintenance, and so is suitable for beginner gardeners.
Fruit: This variety’s berries are big, aromatic, sweet and reddish pink.
Ripening The Autumn raspberry bears fruit twice a year - on two-year-old canes in August, and on the current year’s shoots come autumn.
Cultivation requirements: This raspberry shrub is easy to grow. Warm and sunny spots with fertile and permeable soil are best. A slightly acidic reaction of the soil (about 5.8-6.8 pH) is optimal.
Pruning: The Autumn raspberry is to be pruned in early spring. First and foremost, dry and damaged canes should be cut, and the remaining canes can be pruned to about half of their length to produce strong new shoots.
Overwintering: This shrub is frost resistant in almost the entire territory of Poland (except USDA zone 5b in the NE). It doesn’t freeze in down to - 24°C. At the beginning of November, cover young shrubs by piling a mound of soil with peat about 30 cm in height over the plant, or shield them with agrotextile.
