Variegated Porcelain Berry Vine ’Elegans’

Variegated Porcelain Berry Vine ’Elegans’ (Ampelopsis glandulosa)

Commonly called porcelain vine, is a vigorous, woody, deciduous climbing vine which is somewhat similar in habit to wild grape vines and will typically grow to a height of 4-6m.
Elegans has three-lobed leaves that are variegated with white. The leaves are white-shiny underneath with a margin while young leaves show a pinkish tinge in the spring.
Greenish flowers appear in the leaf axils in July. The berry then grows pale lilac-blue fruits which mature to brighter and deeper shades of amethyst to porcelain blue.
Grow in any moist but well-drained, fertile soil. Best planted against a warm, sheltered, partially shaded wall.
This plant is completely hardy.
